Tattoo pricing: size, detail and planning your sessions

A tattoo quote needs a discussion of the design, size, placement and scope. Start an AttAcus AtlAs enquiry with your idea, body area, measurements in centimetres and city. For a sleeve or cover up, discussing the whole project first is especially useful.

Why one photograph cannot determine a quote

A reference suggests a direction but does not define your tattoo’s size, placement or level of detail. Share approximate height and width in centimetres, the body area and preferred palette. The same image cannot automatically work at every scale. Pick two or three portfolio examples close to your idea and explain which elements appeal to you. This gives the artist a clearer starting point than a large collection of unrelated images.

A small piece, a sleeve or a cover up

For a single tattoo, discuss readability and size. A sleeve starts with the overall composition, any existing tattoos and whether the work can be divided into stages. For a cover up, the artist needs to assess the current piece; a portfolio example cannot establish that every case can be treated in the same way. Session numbers and price are discussed after assessment. If your budget is limited, say so and ask which versions of the project could be considered.

What to confirm before booking travel

Share your preferred city — Mexico City, Querétaro or Monterrey — and available dates. Work is by arrangement: the specific venue and availability are confirmed directly. Ask whether the discussed price covers the entire project or one stage, how the design will be agreed and what booking or rescheduling terms apply. Avoid planning a trip from an unfinished conversation. Obtain confirmation of the city, venue and time first.

What to send the artist

  • Idea, palette and two or three example links.
  • Body area and approximate dimensions in centimetres.
  • New piece, continuation or cover up; budget guide and currency.
  • City and several available dates.

Commission questions

Can a custom tattoo be priced by the centimetre?
Size alone is not enough. Design, detail, placement and scope are discussed together; this website does not calculate a quote automatically from measurements.
Can a sleeve be split into several stages?
Discuss this with the artist. The overall composition comes first, followed by a possible plan, price and dates for each stage. Sending an enquiry does not reserve an appointment.
