This page is for aftercare when a healing film is used after the session. If your artist gave you personal instructions, follow those first and stay in touch if you have any questions.
FIRST DAYS — FILM
After the session, a special healing film may be applied over the tattoo. It protects the skin from friction and contamination during the first days.
Do not remove the film earlier than your artist instructed. If it peels off, leaks heavily, or strong irritation appears under it, contact your artist.
Do not puncture the film or release fluid yourself. That can break the protection and contaminate the area.
HOW TO REMOVE THE FILM AND WASH THE TATTOO
- Wash your hands thoroughly before removing the film.
- Remove the film slowly and carefully, preferably under warm water. Do not pull sharply or stretch the skin.
- Wash the tattoo with comfortable-temperature water and fragrance-free soap. Clean it gently, without scratching or strong rubbing.
- Pat the skin dry with a clean disposable paper towel. Do not rub the tattoo.
- After removing the film, apply healing product in a very thin layer. If your artist recommended Bepanthen Plus, spread it evenly without leaving a thick greasy layer on the skin.
- Do not cover the tattoo with a new film again unless your artist specifically tells you to.
- Wear clean loose clothing so the area does not rub and stays clean.
After the film is removed, the tattoo continues healing openly, so keep it clean and do not let the skin get too dry.
SHOWER
You may take a short shower with the film on unless your artist said otherwise, but do not steam, soak, or keep the tattoo under hot water for a long time.
Do not take a bath, go to a pool, sauna, or steam room until active healing is over.
WHILE SLEEPING
Make sure the film does not shift or catch on clothing or bedding. Clean loose clothing is best.
Clothing should not press hard, pull the film, or rub the tattoo.
WHAT NOT TO DO IN THE FIRST DAYS
During active healing, try to protect the skin as much as possible:
- do not drink alcohol;
- avoid heavy physical activity;
- avoid heavy sweating whenever possible;
- do not steam or soak the tattoo;
- do not itch or scratch the skin;
- do not pick scabs;
- avoid friction and contamination of the tattoo.
AFTER REMOVING THE FILM
After the film is removed, the tattoo is still healing, so it is important not to let the skin become very dry or cracked.
Apply the recommended product in a thin even layer as needed, based on the condition of the skin.
If peeling or a small scab appears, do not pull it off or pick it yourself. It should come off naturally.
IMPORTANT
Do not rely only on the number of days — everyone's skin recovers at a different speed.
Watch the condition of the tattoo and always stay in touch with your artist. If you are unsure whether healing is going normally, it is better to send a photo and ask right away.
If you notice pronounced or increasing redness, strong swelling, increasing pain, an unpleasant smell, pus-like discharge, fever, or other unusual symptoms, seek medical help.
Healing with film needs the same care and attention as any other method.
Watch the skin, avoid trauma to the tattoo, and stay in touch with your artist.
