How would you like the room to feel?
In a living room, a painting might invite conversation; in a bedroom, suit a quieter rhythm; in a study, recall a meaningful journey. These are personal responses, not guaranteed effects of colour. Describe the atmosphere you enjoy: intimacy, space, movement or warm stillness. Your story helps us find an image.
A surface that rewards a closer look
Up close, an original painting reveals brushwork, colour transitions and small details. Across the room, its silhouette and overall light matter more. Ask for a complete photograph and details of the surface, and tell us where you will view it from. This gives you more to consider than a single small image on a phone.
Give the painting a place in everyday life
Leave space around the work to enjoy it. For its care, choose a position away from direct sunlight and nearby heat, with stable conditions; hanging hardware must suit its weight. The Canadian Conservation Institute explains these basic precautions. Ask the artist about the needs of the particular work.
What to send the artist
- The atmosphere you would like to create.
- A room photograph and wall measurements.
- Two or three favourite works from the portfolio.
- Questions about materials, framing and display.
Commission questions
- Do I need a large house for an original painting?
- No. Choose for the space, scale and your personal response. A small work can also have a strong presence.
- Does it have to match the furniture?
- Not necessarily. It can connect with the room’s palette or offer an independent focal point, depending on your taste.
